Massage Services in Detail Therapeutic massage has been used all over the world for thousands of years. Everyone can enjoy and benefit from this treatment. Therapeutic Massage is the gentle manipulation of muscle tissue by pressure from the hands; stimulating both the mind and body. Remedial massage therapy is a holistic treatment; that is, a treatment for the whole of the body, not only the area being treated. The primary aim of Remedial Massage is to find and treat the cause of the disorder, not only the symptoms. In other words, I look at the big picture, rather than just treating the problem without knowing the cause. Both Therapeutic and Remedial Massage have short and long term effects on the body, bringing about the process of healing. Massage is one of the most effective and natural treatments for stress related conditions. Remedial massage therapy was designed to stretch out and manipulate the deep tissue in muscles, by massaging and stretching out the tight muscular tissue it brings about change and gives you generally instant relief against pain. The way I work with the muscles in the body has been described by many clients as not un-similar to the way an osteopath works Both Therapeutic and Remedial Massage have long term effects on the body, bringing about the process of healing and change. Massage is one of the most effective and natural treatments for the body you can receive today. Here are just a few conditions that will benefit from Remedial Massage treatment:
It is said that a well trained massage therapist's touch can be as effective a treatment as medicines or surgery, doctors often refer patients to me to receive massage therapy. Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. The massage will help prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. Sports massage can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete or a once a week jogger. Each type of sport has different demands on the players. Each sport uses muscle groups in a different way. Sports massage is designed to address those specific concerns and may differ according to the sport the athlete plays. Sports massage can be aimed to help heal strained muscles and allow healthy ones to reach peak performance and maintain it while minimizing the risk of injury. Sports massage has many benefits. In addition to FEELING GOOD, it reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, reduces muscle tension, improves flexibility, and relieves pain. Sports Massage can also include pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques that promote greater athletic endurance and performance, lessen chances of injury and reduce recovery time. The average person can also benefit from this massage. Sports medicine specializes in the prevention and treatment of injuries resulting from training for and participation in athletic events. Among the most common sports injuries are shin splints, runner’s knee, pulled hamstring muscles, Achilles tendonitis, and ankle sprain. Sports Medicine focuses on:
The aim of Corrective Exercise Therapy is to (re) – establish optimal biomechanics and function, through the use of specific exercises and the stretches to correct prevailing postural faults, muscle weakness/tightness and poor motor control patterns. Methods prescribed by a Corrective Exercise Therapy Therapist are based on ongoing academic research and clinical practice in Physical Therapy and Exercise Sciences. During pregnancy a women’s body undergoes many changes, some of them stressful and uncomfortable. Pregnancy massage is a perfect way to reduce stress, tension and it relieves many of the normal discomforts during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, sciatica, leg cramps, headaches, oedema, and sore swollen ankles. Massage helps eliminate waste products from the body which combats fatigue, it increases local and general blood circulation, which brings more oxygen and nutrients to the cells of both the mother and the foetus. Of course, there are many emotional benefits of a massage besides just the physical benefits. Not only is massage relaxing, comforting and healing, it provides support for the new mother with physical and emotional strains of mothering, it also promotes general well being. The Benefits of Massage During Pregnancy During pregnancy a woman’s body undergoes many changes, some of them stressful and uncomfortable. Some of the benefits of Massage during a pregnancy are as follows:
Pregnancy massages are available from Glenn on a specially designed pregnancy mattress where you can lie face down and still remain comfortable. If any you have ever had a seated massage or a massage lying on your side then you will know the difference to having a massage lying face down. A massage lying face down is more relaxing and less stressful on the back. One of the first questions I am always asked is, how far into the pregnancy can I receive a massage? Myofascial Release addresses the body’s fascial system, that is, the fibrous connective tissue that holds the body together. The general intent of Myofascial Release is to restore mobility and to soften the connective tissue called Fascia that has become rigid. This technique involves the slow horizontal stretching of the tissue which removes restrictions in the fascia and in the body that cause limited mobility, postural distortion, poor cellular nutrition, pain and a variety of other problems. Fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone, it is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, and skeletal structures in our body. Injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma and poor posture can cause restriction to the fascia. Since fascia is an interconnected web, the restriction or tightness to the fascia, with time can spread to other places in the body like a pull in a sweater. The goal of myofascial release is to release the fascia restriction and restore it back to it’s original health. All my clients benefit from having Myofascial Release done, not only are they experiencing pain relief, they enjoy the treatment, feel a release happening in their body after their first treatment, and are noticing how calm and relaxed their body is feeling. I suggest to anyone who has not experienced this technique to give it a try, you will be surprised with the results and how relaxed you feel after having it done. The more relaxed the body is feeling, the better the result you will receive from your overall treatment. Trigger Point Therapy is a technique used by applying firm pressure on designated points throughout the body, a type of massage therapy which examines and treats muscles and muscle attachments in layers. It addresses surface muscles and connective tissues and deeper ligaments and connective tissues. It helps relax chronically tight muscles and can relieve pain from nerves such as the sciatic nerve. Trigger Pont Therapy can used in conjunction with Remedial Massage and Myofascial Release. Trigger points can present themselves as referred patterns of sensation such as sharp pain, dull ache, tingling, pins and needles, hot or cold, as well as can create symptoms such as nausea, ear ache, equilibrium disturbance, or blurred vision. These small, hyperirritable sites in the muscle tissue sometimes refer pain to other locations as in headaches or sciatica. Trigger points usually occur up and down your body along the length off the muscle. They are most common in the axial muscles (muscles that control movement of the body from side to side), especially those used to maintain posture, but can be found throughout the body. Trigger points generally occur in more than one location. Trigger points can be felt by palpating the muscles; trigger points will consist of tender, hard (or ropy) knots or nodules surrounded by what feels like normal muscle tissue. The trigger points are usually between or beside the bones and tendons or ligaments, on a depression, never on the bones or blood vessels. Trigger point is a pain-relief technique to alleviate muscle spasms and cramping. The therapist locates and deactivates `trigger points', which are often tender areas where muscles have been damaged or acquired a re-occurring spasm or `kink' that worsens painfully when aggravated. The major goals are to reduce spasm inducing new blood flow into the affected area. Most trigger points are easy to detect by locating the pain, applying pressure and experiencing the subsequent release. The lymphatic system is our font line of defense in fighting bodily infections, detoxifying the body and transporting metabolic wastes, excess water, bacteria and toxins out of the body. The lymph glands (at the neck, armpits, groin, etc.) are connected by a broad network of vessels which transport the fluid. Muscular movement is required to move it, as there is no heart to pump it. Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle whole body treatment that relaxes the nervous system and aids the body’s immune system. It is highly recommended for those prone to and recovering from sore throats, colds, infections, on-going tiredness, excess fluids, low immunity, swollen node and also for the physically inactive. Lymphatic Drainage involves light, rhythmical massage that aids the body in collecting and moving lymphatic fluid, which plays a key role in delivering nutrients, and other immune constituents to the tissue cells of the body and removing debris such as toxins, cell waste and dead particles which are then cleansed by clusters of lymph nodes. Lymphatic drainage also works on the nervous system, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and improving sleep patterns. The tissue fluid or lymph, can become static due the toxin or mucus overload, a blocked lymph passageway as a result of surgery or injury, or certain congenital problems. This leads to the puffy appearance of certain parts of the body, a slow healing process, and problems such as allergies, headaches, sinusitis, low energy and frequent infections. A condition for which Lymphatic Drainage has proved to be particularly effective is odema (water retention) and, in its more serious form, lymphoedema – a severe swelling of a limb or boy part, which can lead in turn to cellulites. Lymphatic Drainage is an essential element of Complex Decongestive Therapy which is used to treat lymphoedema and also includes exercises for the affected limb, compression bandaging, skin care and wearing compression garments. The ancient art of energy transmission through the hands. Reiki is the Japanese word representing Universal Life energy, the energy that surrounds us all. Reiki by enhancing the life force with energy transmitted through the hands, enables the body to mobilise its healing resources. When activated Reiki addresses body, mind and spirit. It accelerates the body’s ability to heal physical ailments and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease and pain, the necessity for taking responsibility for one’s life and the joys of balanced wellness. The Usui System of Reiki is a healing art which uses Reiki in these ways. Glenn has been taught Reiki 1 & 2 which is The Usui System of Natural Healing. This therapy works directly with the nervous system using a devise called a Scenar, (a Self Controlled Electro Neuro Adaptive Regulator) which is a hand held, electro-stimulation therapeutic devise. Scenar therapy is unique because it interactively locates, measures and prompts problem areas in the body called asymmetries(imbalances), by breaking down and treating these so called asymmetries through the skin it helps relieve pain and restore function to the body. Scenar technology represents a major breakthrough in the field of energy healing. The Scenar works by helping the body heal itself, using harmless electrical impulses which stimulate the brain with a constantly changing signal that instructs the nervous system to stimulate Neuropeptides in the body, this in turn helps the body to heal itself. By sending this electric impulse into the body it in turns sends back to the therapist what they call bio feedback, this enables the therapist to pin point the location and imbalance in the body which is causing the pain. In Russia where it was developed, there are case histories where people who have had 40year old complaints have been treated with Scenar therapy and the painful condition has disappeared. Naturally, the earlier the condition is treated generally the quicker the result. Scenar Therapy can be used to treat problems anywhere in the body, ranging from sciatica, chronic back, neck, shoulder or muscular pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and many nervous system complaints down to a simple headache, or if you wish to, you can be energised with a special energy treatment from the Scenar and a blanket so called the energy blanket. SCENAR THERAPY IS COMPLETELY SAFE.
IF YOU HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT THERAPIES AND YOU STILL HAVE PAIN OR DISCOMFORT, THEN YOU HAVE NOT TRIED SCENAR THERAPY.
